Gary Lim Kian Liang, owner of Yeo Keng Nam restaurant in Braddell Road and The Yang’s Traditional Hainanese Chicken Rice was fined $2,500 for using vulgarities which referenced the police officer’s mother.
Another charge of behaving in a disorderly manner by shouting aggressively and repeatedly at police officers was taken into consideration for the 39-year-old’s sentencing.
Lim was drunk when the taxi driver reached his place of residence as the taxi driver could not wake him up. In his drunken stupor, he stood in the centre of the road and started shouting at the top of his voice before uttering vulgarities at the officers.
He was then placed under arrest.
When District Judge Eddy Tham asked Lim if he had reflected and thought about how he could “avoid such a problem” in the future, Lim replied that he had.
“Don’t take taxi lor,” said Lim,
Lim first made the headlines in 2017, when he was caught on camera drunk and mocking a taxi driver. He told the taxi driver that he had so much money that he can’t control himself before starting to count a stack of $1000 bills in front of the driver. He then proceeded to tell the driver that he “cannot do big things as a taxi driver”. Lim had tried to pay for his $12.45 fare with a $1000 bill.
