CHILD STOLE ALCOHOL & GOES HOSPITAL, MOTHER DEMANDS FRIEND TO PAY FOR HOSPITAL

My friend and her son came over for a visit and we left her son inside when we went to see the new table my husband worked on from TaoBao. Her son sneaked into my fridge and took out a bunch of brownies that contains alcohol. I infuse them for myself from orange liqueur (I have chronic pain) and they were leftovers from the previous day.

He ate 2 but we didn’t notice until he started to act weird and admitted he ate the brownies from my fridge. My friend freaked out and thought he dying and when I told her it was alcohol but she refused to believe me and called the ambulance despite me offering to drive him to the hospital.

The paramedics checked him over and told her they could bring him to the hospital but he would recover by himself at home. She took him home rather than go to the hospital and it’s been a few weeks but has since sent me a bill for over $800 claiming I poisoned her son and I should at least pay for the ambulance.

I’ll admit the fridge was probably too tempting but her son is 10 and I’m surprised a 10-year-old would just eat stuff from people’s fridges without asking. I called her up and told her I couldn’t afford to pay it and also that so told her it was regular orange liqueur and we could have driven him to the hospital without an ambulance.

She said she can’t pay it either and because it’s my alcohol I should pay for it.

Here are what netizens think:

  • 10 years old is definitely old enough to have a sense of guest etiquette and know you shouldn’t go rummaging in someone’s fridge like that. I’d respond with a $2,350 invoice for the brownies he stole.
  • Your friend wants you to pay because she cannot afford it. She knows her son is in the wrong for going in your fridge and taking something without asking. She’s trying to guilt you. Is that a good friend? You decide and either let her and her son back or not.
  • I’d write RETURN TO SENDER on that invoice and slip a little coco powder in the envelope for good measure. LOL. 10 is too dam old to go through peoples fridge w/o permission. Period.
