As I sat in the corner of the coffee shop in Marsiling, sipping on my hot coffee, I couldn’t help but notice the commotion happening at the other end of the shop. A man in his 40s was causing a scene, shouting at a young girl who couldn’t have been more than 20 years old.
I watched as the man, with his beer belly and unkempt appearance, kept staring at the girl who worked as a beer girl at the coffee shop. At first, I thought he was just admiring her beauty, but as the minutes passed, it became clear that he was staring at her with an intense and uncomfortable gaze.
The girl, who seemed to be new to the job, noticed the man’s stare and asked him if he wanted to order a beer. I could see the fear in her eyes as she timidly approached his table. But the man’s response shocked me.
He took her question as a “staring incident” and accused her of trying to provoke him. I could see the girl’s confusion and fear turn into anger as she tried to explain that she was just doing her job. But the man was not having any of it.
He started shouting at the top of his lungs, causing a scene in the otherwise peaceful coffee shop. He demanded that the girl apologize to him and his friends who were sitting with him, or else face his “gangsterism wrath.”
I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing. This grown man was acting like a child, picking a fight with a young girl over a simple misunderstanding. It was clear that he was just looking for an excuse to cause trouble.
The girl, on the other hand, just apologise for the sake of entertaining the childish man. But the man was not willing to let it go. He stood up from his seat and started to make threatening gestures towards the girl and told her to step out of the coffeeshop to instigate the matter further.
As the man and his friends left, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. He was a grown man, yet he was acting like a child, trying to intimidate a young girl. It was clear that he was a loser, trying to make himself feel powerful by picking on someone weaker.
