A man in China drank an entire bottle of iced black tea at one go, in an attempt to cool himself down in the hot weather.
However, he soon fell severely ill and vomited blood, and he was then conveyed to the hospital.
The incident happened earlier this month on 19 July, in the Harbin region of Northeastern China, according to 163.com.
The man was seen in CCTV footage entering the A&E department of the Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, before crouching down ad vomiting blood.
The other patients nearby then immediately vacated the area after he vomited blood, and he was then admitted for immediate treatment by medical staff.
His vital signs managed to stabilise following a blood transfusion and he was placed out of danger.
According to news reports, the 38-year-old man was in good health at the time, and he said that he chugged the entire bottle of ice tea at one go due to the sweltering weather.
The doctor that attended to him said that a large amount of frozen liquid entering his digestive tract caused strong spasms in his organ, resulting in gastrointestinal bleeding and mucosal tear.
He said that such heavy bleeding can be life-threatening, and reminded people to be careful when consuming frozen food and beverages, as they can irritate the digestive tract.
