CHINATOWN BECOMES OVERCROWDED ON WEEKEND, NO SOCIAL DISTANCING

Heaps of people were shopping and taking in the sights at Chinatown in the thousands, openly neglecting social distancing and going about their businesses as if the Covid-19 pandemic has come to pass.

The huge crowds were masked but they still failed to keep a 1m distance between each other.

Infectious disease specialist, Leong Hoe Nam, spoke to The New Paper and he exclaimed that the crowd at Chinatown is exactly what the virus would want; he added that we have “Covid fatigue”.

A team of 10 safe distancing ambassadors also faced difficulties in managing the crowds, even though they had teams activated from other areas to come over and help them out, as well as assistance from the police – the crowd proved too huge for them to mitigate.

Leong also mentioned that if Singaporeans continue their errant and nonchalant ways about the pandemic, a super spreading event will occur and we will once again lapse into another Circuit Breaker, as is the case in other countries.
