A 24-year-old Chinese actor has suffered second-degree burns to his face after a fire-breathing stunt went wrong during the filming of a television drama in Kunming, China.
Liu Ximo was filming the production 15 Minutes Past Midnight (《零时十五分》), which marks his first leading role. The accident reportedly happened during a scene involving fire performance, leaving him with facial injuries including peeling skin and blisters.
Following the incident, Liu confirmed what happened on social media and shared photographs showing his injuries.
Strong Winds Caused Flames To Hit His Face

According to Liu, the production team had made preparations for the fire-breathing scene before filming began. A stunt double was also on standby in case he was unable to perform the sequence himself.
However, Liu decided to carry out the stunt personally because he had previously learnt fire-breathing techniques and had experience performing similar acts.
He revealed that he had repeatedly rehearsed the stunt before filming, and everything had gone smoothly during the practice sessions.
Unfortunately, conditions changed when the cameras started rolling. Strong winds reportedly caused the flames to shift direction unexpectedly, sending the fire towards his face.
The crew immediately rushed to extinguish the flames before arranging for him to receive emergency medical treatment.
Doctors Confirm Second-Degree Burns
Following medical examinations, Liu was diagnosed with second-degree burns to his face.
His injuries included peeling skin and blistering, prompting concern among fans who saw the photographs he shared online.
Liu explained that he waited two days before publicly addressing the incident because he did not want his family to see the photographs and become worried.
However, after reports about the accident began circulating online, he decided to explain the situation himself.
He subsequently reassured followers that his condition had stabilised.
Actor Returns To Set Despite Injuries
Despite the accident, Liu reportedly did not want the production to be disrupted because of his injuries.
He has since returned to the filming set and resumed work, while following his doctor’s instructions to avoid exposure to sunlight.
One of his biggest concerns is whether the burns will leave permanent scars on his face.
The actor has also turned to social media to ask netizens for suggestions on ways to minimise scarring during the recovery process. Many fans have responded with messages of encouragement and support.
Liu Ximo’s Acting Career
Liu entered the entertainment industry in 2018 through the programme A Bite of China Restaurant (《壹间中餐厅》).
He later gained attention after appearing in the urban family drama Growing Pain (《少年派》).
His latest production, 15 Minutes Past Midnight, marks an important milestone in his acting career as his first project in a leading male role.
The accident has understandably raised concerns among viewers about the risks involved in performing dangerous stunts during television and film productions, particularly when fire and other hazardous elements are involved.
