The 21-year-old woman who was allegedly stabbed to death inside a lift at Choa Chu Kang has been cremated, with heartbreaking scenes unfolding as her parents bid their final farewell.
According to reports, the cremation for Chua Bee Ting took place on May 28 evening after her family claimed her body from the authorities. Relatives and funeral staff later gathered at the void deck area near the lift where the tragic incident occurred to perform traditional religious rites.
A Buddhist monk was reportedly present during the ceremony. Funeral staff placed a dress believed to have belonged to the victim in front of the lift, alongside a talisman bearing her birth details as part of the ritual.
Her parents initially tried to remain composed, but emotions soon overwhelmed them as prayers continued.
Parents Break Down During Cremation Ceremony
Witnesses said the atmosphere at Mandai Crematorium and Columbarium Complex turned especially emotional when the coffin was opened for one final viewing.
Chua’s father reportedly burst into tears while speaking to his daughter, sharing that she had been doing an internship and hoped to earn enough money to buy her dream car and even give him spending money in the future.
“You don’t need to give Dad any money. Dad can earn his own. But you left so soon,” he reportedly said while standing beside the coffin.
Her mother was also seen crying as she looked at her daughter one last time, saying she could not bear to let her go.
Family members later placed some of Chua’s favourite clothes, shoes and stuffed toys into the coffin before it was sealed for cremation. The dress used during the earlier religious rites was also placed inside.
At around 8pm, loved ones gave their final goodbyes as the coffin was slowly moved towards the cremation chamber.
