The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said yesterday (31 May) that 13 new psychoactive substances (NPS) will be added to the Misuse of Drugs Act on 1 June.
They said that the abuse of NPS are linked to physical and psychological reactions that could lead to death.
They will be listed as Class A drugs and the trafficking, manufacturing, importing, exporting, possession and consumption of the 13 additional NPS will be an offence.
CNB will also be allowed to place the users of the NPS under supervision, send them to a drug rehabilitation centre for treatment, and charge them in court.
CNB added that there has been a rapid increase in the number, types and availability of NPS globally, with a huge number of the NPS overseas being controlled under the MDA here.
