Comedian Nate Bargatze wore a helmet onstage when presenting during the Grammy Awards on Sunday at Las Vegas.
His wearing of the helmet was a reference to Chris Rock getting slapped by Will Smith at the Oscars a week earlier, for making a joke about the latter’s wife bald head.
Batgatze took to the stage with a helmet on his head, as the audience gasped and laughed at his antics; he then opened his presentation by saying:
“Thank you, thank you. They said comedians have to wear these now at awards shows during the joke parts. So… It doesn’t even cover your face, I think it just focuses where you would hit me.”
Actor Levar Burton, who was introducing Bargatze, said:
“Now, I want to warn you all that our next presenter is a comedian, if you know what I mean. So I need to caution everybody, remain in your seats and keep your hands to yourselves. All right?”
