The Singapore Army’s 1st Commando Battalion (1 Cdo bn) has clinched the SAF’s Best Combat Unit (BCU) for the 17th consecutive time, making their total wins a whopping 34 times since the competition’s introduction in 1969.
The last time a unit other than the Commandos won the BCU was way back in 2003 by, you guessed it, the 1st Guards Battalion.
As for the Republic of Singapore Navy’s Top Gun award, RSS Vigor clinches the Best Fleet Unit for the fourth time, demonstrating operational readiness and competency through exercises like Exercise Pelican and Exercise Bersama Lima.
The Republic of Singapore Air Force’s Best Fighter Squadron award goes to the airmen and women from 143 Squadron for the fourth time. With their F-16C/D multi-role fighters, the squadron conducts a wide spectrum of air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, and maintains a high level of operational readiness to support air defence operations. This includes responding expeditiously to the bomb threat on the Singapore Airlines flight SQ423 and escorting it to land safely in 2019.
