COMPANY LIED ABOUT ENTITLEMENTS TO GET NEW STAFF TO JOIN, AFTER JOIN THEN ACT BLUR

employer lied to me in order to get me accept a position

Advertisements

about 4 months into my new job, employer did not promise what i was supposed to be entitled to which she mentioned during a phone interview 4 months ago, now saying it ‘wasnt a confirmed thing’. this ‘entitlement’ was also a factor as to why i decided to join this company.

so now i am left feeling angry and upset but felt like there is nothing much i can do except to suck it up.

what would you do if you were me?

  1. Look for a new job and resign.
That’s what I did when something similar happened to me (mine was a significant change in my scope and the original scope was my reason for joining)
  2. resign so you clear your notice period at once. there are tons of slimy smes in singapore and they will drastically change your job-scope after you sign on the dotted line.
check your contract carefully next time, and exercise discretion before committing.
every man for themselves, not the organisation. they will replace you just as quickly as they got you.
  3. Since your employer failed to keep her words during the interview, expect plenty of landmines to navigate down the road.. Relationship that’s founded on a lie n bad faith usually leads to nowhere.
Also, if she’s a liar to begin with, she’s likely won’t think twice to bad mouth you when your potential employer calls to conduct a background check. Better be careful.
  4. I have learnt the hard way that anything verbal NEEDS to be written. Whether by email or best, stated in the agreement. An employee has most power right before signing the employment agreement. Once you sign that, that’s it.
Find another job or try talking to your boss abt it. If they deny, then start looking
  5. Find out if anyone of ur colleagues went through the same thing, start looking for another job, once you’ve got interviews lined up and a few jobs that you’re likely to take, resign.
