On the night of July 2nd, an alarming incident occurred on the PIE, capturing the attention of many. The incident involved a construction worker who was running across the expressway towards his colleagues when he was hit by a speeding lorry.
Footage of the incident was shared on SG Road Vigilante’s (SGRV) Facebook page, shedding light on the harrowing event.
At approximately 11:29 p.m. on July 2nd, the incident took place on the PIE, heading towards Changi near the Eng Neo Avenue exit.
The video footage posted on SGRV’s Facebook page reveals a group of workers engaged in road construction activities in the middle of the expressway.
Despite the presence of cautionary measures, such as cones, the workers were still exposed to the danger of passing vehicles.
In the video, one worker is seen waiting by the side of the rightmost lane, hoping for a clear opportunity to cross the road.
However, as h was running across the road, tragedy struck when a lorry collided with him at full speed and he was unable to get out of the way of the lorry, sending the victim flying out of the frame of the surveillance video.
In the aftermath of the accident, the victim’s colleagues swiftly rushed to his aid. Another worker took immediate action by signaling approaching motorists to slow down and stop, recognizing the critical need for prompt intervention
Upon receiving the alert about the road traffic accident at around 11:35 p.m. on July 2nd, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) promptly responded to the scene.
SCDF conveyed the injured worker to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. As of now, the severity of the worker’s injuries remains uncertain, awaiting further medical assessment.
According to 8world News, police investigations into the accident are currently underway.
