A netizen previously shared how her entire 100kg false ceiling had collapsed in her children’s room, claiming that it was held up by only 4 nails.
The woman, Liu, shared that she had brought her kids out at the time when the ceiling collapsed on the children’s bed.
Liu told Shin Min Daily News that after inspecting the collapsed ceiling, she realised that the contractor only used 4 nails to support the structure.
50 screws, not 4
However, the contractor who did the ceiling, SR Tech Engineering, told Yahoo News Singapore that they actually used 50 screws to support the 4 sides of the ceiling in addition to the 4 screws that Liu saw in the centre.
They also revealed that the renovation was completed in January and that they are investigating what caused the collapse.
The family is currently being accommodated at a hotel by the contractor, who is repairing the damages, along with some lighting works for free.
They also offered the family compensation of about $1,100, twice the price of the ceiling work.
