COUPLE CHEATED SKILLSFUTURE OF ALMOST SGD$40 MILLION JAILED

According to the Police a husband and wife couple has been jailed for scamming SGD$39.9 million from SkillsFuture.

The man Ng Cheng Kwee faces 17 years of jail while his wife Lee Lai Leng is sentenced to 14 years in jail.

Straits Times reported that the couple bought 11kg of gold with the money.

The couple registered 9 companies and submitted over 8000 applications to receive grants between May and October 2017. They even paid 3 individuals to register the companies on their behalf to hide their names.

The Police said: “The syndicate’s scheme resulted in SSG disbursing approximately $39.9 million of training grants in total to the corporate bank accounts of eight entities,”

Other members who are involved in the scam are facing charges as well.
