A netizen, @home.sweet.home, shared how they finally got their 4-room BTO flat after waiting more than 5 years for it.
However, when they finally collected their keys to their new flat, they hired a defects team to inspect the unit and found a whole host of issues with the unit.
Here is what they said
*Update: Cost to hire @sgdefectscan ranges from $435-455 for 4rm flats. Dm them for price enquiries and quote my IG for special rates!*
Is it necessary to hire a professional team to check for defects?
It’s a YES for us! As the saying goes, prevention is better than cure. Rather than having issues cropping up later, it’s better to identify them early and get them rectified right at the beginning!
Honestly when we took a look around ourselves, we didn’t spot much defects or major flaws. But when the team from @sgdefectscan came in, they starting pasting soooo many stickers around and we were like whut?! We would never have been able to identify all these by ourselves (nor our ID), especially those that are not visible to the eye. E.g. hollow walls.
The whole rectification process by BSC dragged over ~5 weeks, which is painfully long, but I think its something necessary so we can start reno with a good foundation. Thankfully our unit didn’t have anything more major such as leaking pipes, uneven tiles or water ponding as these might take even longer to be rectified.
FYI for BTO units, defects should be rectified by BSC for free (technically you paid for the house la). But note that it should be done BEFORE renovation, because the “blaming game” sets in once different contractors come in for reno works.

- Just report to HDB. New flats are under one year DLP
- U better check the elec n plumbing
- Is this a total brand new directly from HDB? After the defects , did the HDB repair all defects ?
- Hahah I enjoyed watching this , it’s like spotting “what’s wrong with this picture” but it’s good that you are stringent now instead of discovering it later. When I went through my house last time, I will lay awake thinking “did I catch them all”
