When my husband and I got our HDB flat in our late 40s, we were feeling so excited. We had been living in together with my family for so long, and we felt that we had finally achieved something and were finally getting our own place to call home.
Get already then suddenly regret
After getting the HDB flat, we had a little bit of regrets. We had already spent most of our working years and had not saved much for our retirement.
We thought that getting an HDB flat would be a smart move and would be a good investment, as we could rent it out to generate some income when we can no longer work.
However, now that we have our HDB flat, we are starting to regret it. We had not taken into consideration that we are already in our late 40s and might have to slog hard for another decade or so to pay for it.
We had not taken into consideration the cost of living and inflation and that we may not be able to afford to retire as planned.
We are now worried that we may have to work until we are too old to enjoy our retirement.
We should have saved more money for our retirement, and we should have considered other types of investments.
We now understand why it is important to plan for retirement early on in life, and we regret that we did not do so when we had the chance.
