CPF – SMS ABOUT ELDERSHIELD POLICY TERMINATION IS LEGITIMATE

The Central Provident Fund (CPF) Board said yesterday (23 April) that the SMS that was sent to CPF members telling them that their ElderShield policy has been terminated is actually legitimate.

The SMS had a link that directs the receiver to a website regarding CareShield Life, which replaces ElderShield, and it also had an instruction to the user to log in with their Singpass.

This comes in the wake of netizens sharing screenshots of the SMS online and on Whatsapp, warning others not to click on the link, and saying that it was a scam.

The CPF Board said that the careshieldlife.gov.sg was temporarily down on Friday as there were many people trying to access the website at the same time, but the problem has since been resolved.

CPF added that members can check if the website domain listed in the SMS ends with a “.gov.sg” to ascertain the genuinity of the link.

The Smart nation Digital Government Group (SNDGG) previously said in January that they are reviewing the practice of sending SMSes and clickable links in their communications.
