Eng and her husband, Andy Oh, were cycling with their own group of cyclists along Upper Thomson Road at the time, when a bigger group of cyclists had ridden up closely from behind them to overtake them.

One of the cyclists then collided with Oh and caused him to crash, but the offending group then continued cycling away and riding off despite Eng shouting at them.

She said that the group of cyclists had ignored the safety of others and caused her husband’s crash, and added that they didn’t even stop when they heard the crash, which she described as “the most dreaded sound” that cyclists can hear from a mile away.

As a result of the accident, her husband suffered minor bleeding in his brain, as well as undergoing elbow surgery.

Here is what she said

This is what happens when a peloton of crazy cyclists decide to let their egos get the better of them, ignoring the safety of others, cause the crash of my love, and guess what, rode off despite hearing shouts from others and screams and shouts from me.

No regard for the safety of others or even stopping when they hear a crash. And trust me, cyclists can hear a crash a mile away, it’s the most dreaded sound.

He has a minor brain bleed which will be monitored closely tonight and tomorrow. Initial suspected hip and elbow fractures have been ruled out.

Good thing we were riding with friends and they were there to help. The Traffic Police is investigating this and cos of our friend’s post on FB, the cyclist has contacted me.

Offending cyclist reached out

The cyclist who was responsible for the crash, later reached out to her after seeing the Facebook post about his actions, and apologised for what he did.

However, Oh maintains that they are no satisfied with his excuses and are planning to take legal action against him, explaining that the fact that neither the cyclist nor his group had stopped after causing the accident was wrong.

Eng also added that at the time of the accident, the cyclist who collided with her husband was riding very close to her before that, and also tried to squeeze in between her and another cyclist that was beside her at the time.

She then slowed down because she felt a little unsteady, which prevented herself from crashing into her husband, before the cyclist clipped Oh’s wheel and caused his crash.
