At least two crows have been witnessed attacking people just outside the mall’s entrance, according to The Straits Times.

The National Parks Board (NParks) swiftly intervened by removing the crow’s nest, so as to prevent similar attacks from reoccurring.

The Aggressive Crows

Witnesses at Orchard Central mall have reported unsettling incidents involving two aggressive crows. These feathered culprits were observed attacking and pecking unsuspecting passers-by passing by their nest, at a rate of about 10 attacks per hour, according to ST.

The birds adopted a striking modus operandi, swooping down from street signs and ambushing their victims from behind. Their attacks involved grazing shoulders with talons and pecking at necks and ears. After each assault, they sought refuge in a nearby tree, near the outside escalator at Orchard Central’s entrance.

The crows seemed to have a preference for targeting men who unwittingly ventured too close to the tree. One victim was even seen leaving the area with a bleeding earlobe.

Witness Ms. Joyce Heng recounted her shock at the birds’ ferocity to ST, describing how they pursued some people relentlessly, even when their victims tried to dodge their attacks.

Another witness, Ms. Kim Choo, shared a video capturing the birds targeting three passers-by in just one minute. Ms. Choo expressed concern about the potential risks for children and those using the nearby escalator.

Understanding the Culprits

The birds responsible for these alarming attacks are known as house crows, an invasive species originating from South Asia.

They are very protective of their offsprings and if they feel their baby crows are threatened, they could attack and respond aggressively.
