Singapore is known for its diverse culinary delights, and one dish that holds a special place in the hearts of many locals is kway chap. However, recently, this beloved dish faced an unexpected hiccup.
A customer reportedly found a hairy piece of pig skin in his kway chap bought from a hawker stall at Jurong West.
A Hairy Encounter
According to Shin Min Daily News, it all began when a customer purchased a plate of kway chap from a stall in Jurong West 505 Food Centre.
To their dismay, they discovered that the pig skin in their dish was filled with hair. Naturally, they took to social media, posting a photo of their unsavory discovery on Facebook to express their dissatisfaction.
A Surprising Complaint
The stallholder, Mr. Long, shared his surprise about the incident. Having been in the business for over 20 years, he claimed that it was the first time he received a complaint about hairs on his pig skins. The reason for the hairy pig skin, he explained, was the state in which it arrived from the supplier.
According to Mr. Long, pig skin from the supplier would “definitely” be hairy upon arrival. However, this was a part of the process.
During the food preparation, they meticulously cleaned the pig skin, ensuring that it was free of any unwanted hair or imperfections.
Mr. Long emphasized that pig skin that couldn’t be cleaned properly was promptly disposed of and never served to customers.
Even pig skin that had a less-than-ideal appearance or a prickly texture would be rejected during the quality assurance process.
An Isolated Incident
Mr. Long clarified that the “hairy” pig skin encountered by the customer was indeed a one-off occurrence. He expressed his willingness to address such issues and stressed that customers should immediately inform the stall if they encounter any problems. In such cases, the stall is more than happy to offer a replacement or a refund.
