My boss pulls me in to the office today to explain that a customer apparently took it really personal when he saw me on my phone, even though my job is helping people who come to my desk which obviously means I have downtime every once in a while.
But apparently this a-hole was so personally offended he decided to make it his mission to inform my boss of this behavior, and now my boss is actively looking for tasks to give me and my coworkers to guarantee we can’t stop working for even a second.
Tl:dr breaks for any length of time are for the devil, I guess.

- I got an angry phone call from my boss when I worked at a convenience store once. Apparently a regular came into the store and saw me reading a “magazine” at the counter instead of greeting her, and she took that personally.
When I remembered the incident I had a pretty good idea on what time it happened at so I told my boss to check the cameras and call me back with what he found.
He never called me back. I saw him a few days later and asked him what the outcome of his investigation was. He told me I was clearly reading the latest delivery order paperwork. The same paperwork that he had left me at the beginning of that shift because we were getting extra deliveries that day and he wanted me to be aware of it. - I HATE when bosses think the customer is always right. The worst is when an employee upholds a standard and a customer comes in trying to get special treatment and your boss waives it, doesn’t back you up, and cares more about a single Karen than a permanent employee.
- I WORKED with a guy like that. not even a customer. He literally walked around the shop taking pictures of people if they so much as looked away from their workstation got quite a few in trouble and one person fired. ( all of whom he personally disliked) Dude was a bootlicker and got promoted to Project Manager in two months. I left the company right after that. They rewarded his behavior
