Cyclist Allegedly Kicked Woman In Chest After Collision Along Bukit Timah Rail Corridor

A 55-year-old woman in Singapore has accused a cyclist of kicking her in the chest following a collision along the popular Rail Corridor in Bukit Timah.

The incident allegedly happened at around 11am on May 19 while the woman, identified only as Su, was taking photographs with her husband and sister along the green corridor trail. According to Shin Min Daily News, the confrontation escalated after the cyclist allegedly became upset over the group’s position on the shared pathway, reported Shin Min Daily News.

The case has since sparked discussion online about safety, etiquette and aggressive behaviour between cyclists and pedestrians on Singapore’s increasingly crowded park connectors and recreational trails.

Collision Happened While Taking Photos

Su said she was enjoying a leisurely walk with her family and stopped briefly to take pictures along the Rail Corridor.

She claimed there were few people in the area at the time and that there was still enough space on one side of the path for others to pass through safely.

According to her account, a man riding a mountain bike then approached quickly from behind and attempted to squeeze between her and her sister instead of going around them.

The manoeuvre allegedly caused the cyclist to collide with her from the back.

Su said neither she nor her family heard any warning bell or verbal alert before the impact occurred. Since they were facing away from the cyclist, they did not realise he was approaching at speed.

Argument Allegedly Turned Violent

Following the collision, Su claimed the cyclist appeared impatient and did not apologise.

Instead, she alleged that he scolded the family and accused them of taking up too much space on the path.

Feeling upset over the incident, Su said she grabbed the bicycle handlebars in an attempt to stop the man from riding away, but was allegedly pushed aside.

Her husband then confronted the cyclist verbally in English, which reportedly caused tensions to escalate further.

During the heated exchange, the cyclist allegedly punched the air aggressively and accidentally grazed Su’s husband on the jaw.

Moments later, Su claimed the man kicked her directly in the chest.

She said the sole of his shoe even left a visible dirt mark on her shirt after the alleged assault.

Cyclist Returned Looking For “Computer”

According to Su, the cyclist eventually left the area after the confrontation.

However, he allegedly returned about a minute later and apologised briefly before asking in English whether they had seen his “computer”.

The family reportedly did not understand what he meant and told him they had not seen anything missing from the ground.

Su then used the opportunity to photograph the cyclist before he quickly left the scene once again.

The family later lodged a police report that same night.

The Singapore Police Force confirmed that a report had been filed and investigations are ongoing.

Shared Paths Becoming Increasingly Tense

The incident has reignited conversations about shared pathway etiquette in Singapore, especially at popular recreational spots such as the Rail Corridor, park connectors and cycling paths.

As more Singaporeans take up cycling, jogging and outdoor fitness activities, complaints involving speeding cyclists, pedestrians blocking paths and aggressive confrontations have also become more common.

Many netizens responding to the case online called for greater courtesy and patience from both cyclists and pedestrians to prevent future disputes from escalating into physical confrontations.

Under Singapore law, voluntarily causing hurt can result in fines, jail time or both depending on the severity of the injuries and circumstances surrounding the case.
