CYCLIST BEATS RED LIGHT, ALMOST TURNED HIS RED PACKETS INTO WHITE PACKETS

A video emerged online showing a near-miss between an errant cyclist and several other vehicles at a busy road junction.

The errant cyclist was seen beating the red light at the junction of Bedok South Avenue 1 and East Coast Road, on 2 February at about 6.58am.

He then escaped being run over by a van by a mere few seconds.

Potential penalties

It is an offence to beat a red light in Singapore.

Drivers found guilty of failing to conform to traffic light signals face a composition fine of $400 for light vehicles and $500 for heavy vehicles.

They also face 12 demerit points and if a driver accumulates 24 or more demerit points within 24 months, their license will be suspended.
