A video previously emerged online showing an escalated altercation between a driver and a cyclist along East Coast Road, with the cyclist jumping on top of the car as the driver then drove off with the cyclist holding on to the car’s hood.
Following the incident, the 49-year-old driver, Elaine Michele Ow and the 31-year-old cyclist Nicolette Tan Shi-en, are both facing charges in court for the incident.
Ow is being charged with recklessly endangering the safety of others by driving her car forward while an individual was lying on the front hood of the vehicle.
Tan is also being charged with recklessly endangering the safety of others for positioning herself on the car’s bonnet, obstructing the driver’s view while in the middle of the road.
Furthermore, Tan is also facing an additional charge of obstructing the passage of others in a public area by preventing the vehicle from moving forward while standing on the road.
The police are currently conducting investigations into the matter. Both Ow and Tan appeared in the State Courts on Tuesday afternoon to face their charges.
During the court proceedings, the police Prosecuting Officer requested a later date for the hearing to allow for sufficient time to complete the investigations. The officer also mentioned that they would review any available video footage and request a medical report related to the incident.
The judge granted the adjournment and granted bail to both individuals at S$10,000 each. Both Ow and Tan expressed their intention to seek legal representation.
If found guilty of recklessly endangering the safety of others, they could face a maximum prison sentence of six months, a fine of up to S$2,500, or both.
In addition, the charge of obstructing others in a public area carries a penalty of a fine of up to S$1,000.
