DAYDREAMING DRIVER NEVER SEE RED LIGHT, CRASHES INTO MOTORCYCLIST

A video emerged online showing a daydreaming driver failing to conform to the red light and rear-ending a motorcyclist that was waiting at the traffic stop.

The incident happened on 11 March at a traffic stop along Shenton Way at about 5.20pm, and was captured by another vehicle.

The motorcyclist was seen waiting a the traffic light, which was red at the time.

The Toyota Vios then appeared into frame without showing any signs of slowing down, and ended up rear-ending the motorcyclist,

The impact sent him falling backward and knocked him off his bike.

The bewildered motorcyclist then sat on the ground in a heap and stared at the driver, gesturing at him, presumably pointing out that the traffic light was red.

Potential penalties

It is an offence to beat a red light in Singapore.

Drivers found guilty of failing to conform to traffic light signals face a composition fine of $400 for light vehicles and $500 for heavy vehicles.

They also face 12 demerit points and if a driver accumulates 24 or more demerit points within 24 months, their license will be suspended.
