Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, India’s capital territory, has urged India to ban all flights with Singapore.
He tweeted that a new variant of Covid-19, which he claimed was “found in Singapore”, is “extremely dangerous” for children and could launch a third wave of infections in India.

Kejriwal was referring to the B.1.617 variant, which was in actual fact, first detected from India and originated from there.
He then appealed to the central government, saying that all air services with Singapore should be cancelled with immediate effect and that vaccination for children should be main priority.
Several Indian netizens have also pointed out to him that the variant is the same one that originated from India, and not Singapore.

Hindustan Times also used the term “Singapore virus” when reporting Kejriwal’s comments.
