Delhi, India is currently facing toxic haze and worsening levels of air pollution.
According to the BBC, all schools and colleges in the city have been closed indefinitely as a result.
All construction work have also been halted, with exceptions for transport and defence-related work, until 21 November.
City in lockdown
India’s Supreme Court also ordered the government to enforce emergency measures to tackle the pollution.
The local government considering locking down the city to minimize vehicular traffic and other activities that could potentially add to the pollution.
However, the decision to lockdown the city is still waiting for the Supreme Court’s approval.
City affected by haze since Diwali
Delhi has been reportedly affected by the toxic hazed since the festival of Diwali.
Their air quality index reads 310 AQI, which is 100 AQI above the satisfactory level prescribed by the US Environmental Protection Agency.
Delhi’s air quality is also 51.9 times higher than the safe levels of WHO’s standards.
