In an incident that occurred on June 19, 2023, in Toa Payoh Central, a food delivery cyclist collided with a woman on a footpath and attempted to flee the scene.
According to the video footage posted on the Facebook group SG Road Vigilante, the cyclist involved allegedly refused to stop after colliding with the woman.
Frustrated, he directed profanities at her for blocking his path. The woman’s boyfriend attempted to chase after the cyclist, but he adamantly refused to stop.
Fortunately, a passerby intervened and apprehended the cyclist, attempting to prevent him from escaping.
Amidst the commotion, another person in the vicinity mentioned calling the police. An onlooker recorded the incident on their phone and questioned the cyclist, asking why he was running if he believed he had done nothing wrong.
The cyclist responded in Malay, stating that he had work to attend to. However, his statements became incoherent, and he resorted to verbally insulting the person holding him captive.
In a heated exchange, the cyclist called the individual derogatory names. As tensions escalated, the man restraining the cyclist pinned him against a pillar.
Attempting to break free from his captor, the cyclist aggressively kneed the man in the face and knocked him out, causing him to lose consciousness and fall backwards onto the ground.
Seizing the opportunity, the cyclist made a swift escape, with concerned onlookers admonishing him not to flee before giving chase. Fortunately, the man who was kneed in the chest later confirmed that he was unharmed.
Following the incident, the Singapore Police Force received a distress call at approximately 7:25 PM, reporting the incident in Toa Payoh.
Subsequently, a 31-year-old man was arrested for both outrage of modesty and rash act causing hurt. The Singapore Civil Defence Force also received a call for assistance at around 7:30 PM.
Medical personnel assessed a person involved in the incident for minor injuries, but the individual declined further medical attention.
