MP Desmond Tan shared in a Facebook post that the number of Dengue cases this year has already hit more than 8,000, and that this is worrying because we have yet to enter the peak season of Dengue, which is between June to October.
Here is what he said
The number of dengue cases reported this year has climbed to over 8,000 already — way above the 5,582 cases for the whole of last year! This is worrying as we have yet to enter the traditional dengue peak season of June to October.
Today, I visited Woodsvale Condominium, located in a dengue cluster area, to witness the efforts to stem transmission there. @NEA is working with agencies and grassroots representatives to intensify vector control efforts in such dengue cluster areas, and have closed about 70% of the clusters notified so far.
Unfortunately, we have detected egregious cases of premises with multiple mosquito breeding habitats, and habitats with profuse breeding. In dengue cluster areas, about 60% of Aedes breeding are found in homes! NEA will take strong enforcement action against these cases, as well as cases found in other public or construction sites.
Let’s do our part to fight dengue by doing the #MozzieWipeout ‘B-L–O-C-K’ steps regularly. For those staying in a dengue cluster area:
Spray insecticide in dark corners of your home,
Apply insect repellent, and
Wear long-sleeved tops and long pants to avoid getting bitten. Together, we can #BLOCKDengue and protect our community.
