Sing Tao Daily has reported that the funeral of Choi will take place on 19 June at the Po Fook Memorial Hall, situated in Tai Wai, Hong Kong, with preparations already underway for the upcoming funeral rites.

This event will be a private affair, exclusively attended by close friends and family members.

To pay tribute to Choi’s memory, the hall has been adorned with splendid pink drapes, as pink held significant meaning for her.

Body restored with 3D printing

The return of Choi’s body to her family took place in April, as reported by Sing Tao Daily.

However, the funeral and cremation processes faced a delay due to the family’s decision to restore her body using 3D printing technology in order to recreate her face.

Given Choi’s deep-rooted emphasis on her appearance during her lifetime, her family enlisted the expertise of restoration specialists for this intricate, time-consuming, and costly endeavor.

Following the funeral service, Choi’s body will be cremated at the Po Lin Monastery on Lantau Island, where her ashes will also find their resting place.

Sources reveal that the entire funeral proceedings are estimated to exceed HK$3 million (about SGD$515,000), inclusive of the expenses for restoring her dismembered body.

Recap

The disturbingly gruesome murder was reportedly related to a financial dispute over HK$100 million (or SGD$17.2 million).

9 News reported that the Hong Kong police broke into a village house in the afternoon of 24 February, in the Tai Po suburb, which Choi’s former father-in-law reportedly rented.

Inside, the police found Choi’s dismembered legs, which were cooked, and stored inside a refrigerator, with the police also finding a meat grinder, an electric saw, and soup pots with human tissue inside.

A white 7-seater vehicle was also towed away by the police from the scene later that night.

Choi’s head, torso and hands were also still missing at the time.

HK01 reported that the model was last seen on 21 February wearing a white outfit on 21 February at about 2.15pm, and SCMP reported that her former brother-in-law had picked her up from her home.

He was also supposed to pick up Choi’s daughter, but Choi didn’t pick up her child and was later reported to be missing.

Police superintendent Alan Chung spoke to the media on 25 February saying that the murder was well-planned and premeditated.

He said that the property where her body was found, was carefully prepared for the purpose of cutting up a body, with nothing inside the apartment but a table and a couch, with the walls also being covered.

Choi had been providing financial support to her ex-husband and his family, and was allegedly being extorted by some of her ex-husband’s relatives.

Choi’s former brother-in-law and parents-in-law also made false and misleading statements to the police, with Chung saying that they created “plenty of lies and smokescreens to mislead us”.

They have all been arrested.

Missing head found

Choi’s decapitated head was finally found inside a big pot of soup, along with some of her missing ribs.

According to South China Morning Post, the discovery was made on 26 February, about 2 days after the rest of her body was found.

The authorities seized two large pots of soup on 24 February from a house in Tai Po Village, the same house where Choi’s severed legs were found.

The contents of the soup inside the pot had to be sent to a mortuary to be examined on 25 February and were filled to the brim with minced meat believed to be human tissue and soup, according to HK01.

Choi’s head was also found inside the pot of soup during examination by forensic experts, and it was almost intact – but it appears as if someone tried to smash it.

Her ribs were also found and are currently being stored with her head at the mortuary, and the police are still looking for her other missing body parts, including her torso and her hands.

7 suspects have since been arrested for Choi’s gruesome murder, including her ex-husband, ex-father-in-law, ex-brother-in-law and ex-mother-in-law.
