Doctor Wong Choo Wai, 50, was charged in court Thursday (Sep 2) for his alleged involvement in forging more than S$62,000 in medical claims that involve 215 patients at his clinics.
He cheated polyclinics into paying subsidies under the Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) by submitting false claims for medical procedures that he did not do.
For those procedures that he did, he allegedly inflated the amount claimed and falsified the medical case notes of his patients to create evidence to support the claims.
These alleged offences took place between 2015 and 2016.
Wong is the owner of two private clinics, Bedok and Day and Night Clinic and Jurong Day and Night Clinic, and practices medicine in one of them.
Eight counts of cheating and falsification of accounts were brought to him in court on Thursday.
He faces a jail term up to 10 years and a fine for every individual charge of cheating and falsifying accounts under the Penal code.
His bail has been set at S$60,000 and his case would be heard again in court on Sept 30.
