In responding to queries about the new protocols for the number of medical leave days for Covid-19 infected patients, Ministry of Health’s (MOH) Director of Medical Services, Kenneth Mak said that there will no longer be a number of specified medical leave dates.
Doctors will assess the patient before deciding
In deciding on the number of days of medical leave to be given for Covid infected patients, doctors will be given full discretion to decide how many days of medical leave should a patient get.
The number of medical leave days would be given after the doctor conducts an assessment of the patient’s condition.
Kenneth Mak said that this protocol would not only apply to Covid, but also to other types of sickness and this would be a more sustainable approach towards the ‘new normal’.
Urges companies to respect the number of medical leave days given
Kenneth Mak also urged companies to respect the doctor’s diagnosis and to respect the number of medical leave days that the doctor has given their employees.
Companies are also urged to allow their employees an adequate amount of time to recover from the virus.
However, he also acknowledged that different companies and individuals might have different arrangements when it comes to Covid related issues.
