Don Don Donki at HarbourFront Centre To Close Ahead of Major Redevelopment

Japanese discount retail chain Don Don Donki has announced that its outlet at HarbourFront Centre will permanently close on Jul. 19, 2026, as redevelopment works at the mall prepare to begin later this year.

The closure marks the end of nearly six years for the popular outlet, which first opened its doors in October 2020. Known for its wide range of Japanese snacks, fresh produce, ready-to-eat meals and imported household products, the HarbourFront branch had become a regular shopping destination for office workers, residents and travellers heading to Sentosa or ferry terminals nearby.

According to the retailer, the shutdown is directly linked to the large-scale redevelopment of HarbourFront Centre, which is scheduled to commence in the second half of 2026. Redevelopment works are expected to continue for several years, with completion projected around 2031.

To mark the outlet’s final months of operation, Don Don Donki announced that selected items will be offered at discounts of up to 70 per cent before the store officially shutters. Bargain hunters and regular customers are expected to take advantage of the clearance promotions in the lead-up to the closure.

The company also thanked customers for supporting the HarbourFront branch over the years and encouraged shoppers to continue visiting its other Singapore outlets.

Shoppers Redirected To Nearby Tiong Bahru And Tanjong Pagar Branches

Once the HarbourFront outlet closes, the nearest alternatives for customers in the area will be the Don Don Donki stores located at Tiong Bahru Plaza and 100AM in Tanjong Pagar.

The Tanjong Pagar outlet at 100AM is likely to become a key replacement location for many HarbourFront shoppers due to its accessibility via the Circle Line and East-West Line MRT network. The continued expansion of Japanese supermarket chains and specialty grocers in Singapore has also intensified competition within the retail and grocery sector, particularly in premium imported food categories.

HarbourFront Centre’s redevelopment forms part of broader transformation plans in the southern waterfront district. During the construction period, ferry and cruise operations currently handled at the site will be shifted to an interim terminal located adjacent to the existing building from the second half of 2026.

Retail analysts note that redevelopment projects in Singapore often create temporary disruptions for tenants and shoppers but may eventually lead to upgraded commercial spaces, stronger rental demand and increased property value in surrounding areas. Businesses affected by such projects typically face operational relocation costs, commercial lease negotiations and retail staffing adjustments during transition periods.

For now, loyal customers still have a little over two months to visit the HarbourFront Don Don Donki branch before its final closure in July.
