A driver in Singapore has been arrested after allegedly driving under the influence of a dangerous substance commonly referred to as “zombie vape”, raising fresh concerns about road safety and substance abuse in the city-state.
Witnesses reported that the incident took place in Tampines, where a white vehicle was seen stopping abruptly in an oncoming lane, triggering a swift police response. The unusual behaviour of the vehicle quickly drew attention from nearby residents and motorists, prompting authorities to intervene, reported Shin Min Daily News.
According to an eyewitness, the vehicle was surrounded by multiple police cars shortly after it came to a halt. Officers were seen questioning a man who had been sitting at the rear of the vehicle before he was eventually detained. The scene remained active for some time, with police managing traffic flow while conducting investigations.
Another bystander described seeing the driver standing beside the vehicle, encircled by officers. He was later handcuffed and escorted away. Despite the alarming nature of the incident, the vehicle itself did not appear to have sustained any visible damage, suggesting that no collision had occurred prior to the arrest.
Suspected Drug Use Behind The Wheel
Police later confirmed that they were alerted to the situation earlier in the evening and responded promptly. A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly operating a vehicle while under the influence of a hallucinogenic substance. Authorities also recovered two e-cigarette devices along with multiple vape pods from the scene.
The case has since been referred to the Health Sciences Authority, which is responsible for enforcing regulations related to vaping products and controlled substances in Singapore. Investigations are currently ongoing, and further charges may be considered depending on the outcome.
