Three drug suspects had reportedly locked themselves inside a flat at Bishan Street 12 during a harrowing police operation.
They locked themselves inside the flat for 6 hours and refused to come out, resulting in the police breaking down the door and arresting them for suspected drug-related offences.
The incident happened on 5 August at Block 102 Bishan Street 12.
Air cushions set up at bottom of block
A resident spoke to Shin Min Daily News and said they heard knocking on their neighbour’s door at about 9am but there was no response.
The police soon arrived, followed by personnel from the Singapore Civil Defence Force and officers from the Special Operations Command.
Officers from the crisis negotiation team were also deployed to the scene to help in the operation.
The police and the SCDF cordoned off the vicinity also set up air cushions at the foot of the HDB building.
Police officers then broke down the door at about 3pm to gain entry into the unit, and two men and a woman were then arrested.
Owner of unit is drug suspect’s mother
The whole incident ended by 5pm, and the elderly owner of the unit where the suspects locked themselves in, was eventually allowed to return to her home.
Speaking to the media, the elderly woman said that one of the drug suspects was her son, who had told her “not to worry” before he was taken away by the police.
The Singapore Police Force confirmed that two men aged 27 and 33, as well as a 21-year-old woman, had locked themselves inside the HDB unit.
The trio were arrested for drug-related offences and at the time of writing, investigations are still ongoing.
