A 34-year-old man was fined $6,500 after he pleaded guilty to two counts of harassment and violating a personal protection order.
The incident happened on 16 Apr 2020 during the circuit breaker period. It was reported that the man’s Vietnamese wife had left him after he lost his job as a technician. On the day of the incident, the man was heavily intoxicated and being worried about his wife breaking the COVID-19 rules the man then went to his neighbour unit asking for his wife while holding a chopper.
The man’s neighbour then alerted the police after feeling threatened by the man.
During the court hearing, the defence lawyer stated that the man’s relationship with his wife was not in good term. They often argued over the fact that the man lost his job. The accused was remorseful and said that the root cause for his action was due to worrying for his wife. The couple is currently filing for a divorce and he was later sentenced by the court to pay a fine of $6,500 through instalment.
