TikTok user @ermaothman posted a video recounting an incident where a man had entered their home in Jurong after they had forgotten to lock their main door.
Her family was sleeping in the master bedroom when she later heard a sound coming from their main door at about 3am.
Her husband reassured her that it was just the “wind”, but Erma felt something was off because the knocking was getting “very aggressive”.
The knocking sounds then turned into someone trying to pry open their main door, and her child was then woken up by the commotion.
She told her son to go back to sleep and don’t make noise because there was a “bad guy” outside, and he then covered himself with the blanket while trembling with fear.
Go and grab a knife
Erma and her husband then started deliberating on their next course of action, and her husband then hear the sound of running water.
She then told him to quickly go to the kitchen and grab a knife, then open the main door and the gate.
The husband later noticed that the stranger had removed his clothes and left them on the dining table, and he then opened the main door and gate after grabbing the intruder’s clothes as well as a knife, before heading back to the master bedroom.
Erma then called the police while the family hid inside the master bedroom.
The police later arrived and told Erma that her main door was locked, and she said “he (the intruder) had the bloody cheek and audacity to (lock) the main door”.
Erma then told her husband to unlock the main door after confirming that the intruder had returned to the toilet, wanting to let the police handle the situation.
Intruder was actually drunk neighbour
It was later revealed that the man who broke into her home was actually her 9th-floor neighbour, who was drunk and had most likely entered the wrong house.
Erma added that the “best part” is the man had pooped all over her toilet and her dining chairs, and she is planning to throw them away.
She posted an update and said that they are not pressing charges against the man, and that they are actually quite glad that it was a neighbour and not an outsider.
The intruder’s brother then visited the family to apologise and offered to compensate them, but was turned down, with Erma explaining “he came down to apologise, so all is good”.
