DRUNK MAN CHOKES SCDF PERSONNEL, GOES TO JAIL

On 17 May 2023 at about 10:15pm, SCDF responded to a medical case along Jalan Pemimpin involving a man who was reportedly drunk, and sitting on the pavement.

While the ambulance crew was assessing the man after assisting him into the ambulance, he suddenly turned aggressive and tried to choke the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) by grabbing his neck. The paramedic immediately intervened but the person continued his aggression, and tried to choke the EMT again despite attempts to calm him down.

Police assistance was sought and the person was arrested.

Background

The incident occurred in May 2023, when a man assaulted an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). The man, who was reportedly intoxicated, was being assisted into an ambulance when he suddenly became aggressive and tried to choke the EMT by grabbing his neck. Despite attempts to calm him down, the man continued his aggression and tried to choke the EMT again.

The SCDF responded to a medical case along Jalan Pemimpin on May 17, 2023, after receiving reports of a drunk man sitting on the pavement. After assisting the man into the ambulance, the ambulance crew was assessing him when he turned violent. Paramedics intervened, but the man persisted in his aggressive behavior, attempting to choke the EMT once more.

Police assistance was promptly sought, and the man was arrested. In March 2024, he was sentenced to two months imprisonment for using criminal force against public servants.
