DRUNK PROPERTY AGENT KICKED POLICEMAN, SAYS SHE WAS PICKING UP PHONE WITH HER LEG, JAILED

In a surprising turn of events, Rochelle Chow Shuting, a 35-year-old property agent, found herself facing 16 weeks in jail and a hefty S$1,500 fine.

The sentence comes over six years after a tumultuous incident that unfolded in the car park of Parkroyal on Pickering Hotel on August 13, 2019, where she kicked a police officer after being drunk at a wedding, according to Channel NewsAsia.

On 13 August 2019, Rochelle Chow Shuting, who works as a property agent in the real estate industry, had left a wedding ceremony, following a dispute with fellow guests.

The situation escalated when a security guard was summoned to monitor her activities. Despite managing to reach her car on the third floor of the hotel’s car park, chaos ensued when Chow couldn’t find her way out and she started screaming after getting out of her car.

She was described as being violent and even hit a car. according to the security guard.

Faced with an uncontrollable situation, the security guard, Mr. Muhammad Hairul Abdul Halim, sought police assistance.

Upon the police’s arrival, instead of cooperation, Chow continued to express her distress. The situation took a violent turn when attempts were made to arrest her, with three of the officers handcuffing her behind her back.

At the same time, the woman’s mobile phone then dropped onto the ground, and 26-year-old Sergeant Muhammad Taufiq Zainudin then squatted down to help her pick it up, but she ended up kicking him on the right thigh, shouting at him “NO! THAT’S MY PHONE!”

Her actions were captured on the body cameras of the police officers.

Wants to appeal against her sentence.

Chow’s actions led to charges of disorderly conduct and assaulting a police officer. The subsequent legal proceedings concluded with her conviction and the announced sentence, leaving her with the intention to appeal.
