According to a Police media release, two people are facing investigations after they hurled vulgarities at public servants.
Drinking at Pandan Gardens
The first occurrence occurred on August 21, 2021, when the Police received a report of liquor being consumed outside the authorized hours at a park connector in the vicinity of Pandan Garden.
When the Police arrived, they found out that a 46-year-old woman was drinking with 3 other men and non of them were wearing a mask. The Police told them to put on a mask and the 3 men complied with the officers.
The 46-year-old refused to wear her mask and started hurling vulgarities at the officers, leaving with no choice she was arrested on the spot for disorderly behaviour and using abusive words against public servants.
Boon Lay Place Food Village
In a separate incident at Boon Lay Place Food Village, the police were contacted by a Safe Distancing Enforcement Officer from NEA stating that a man is refusing to comply and needed the help of the Police.
A 32-year-old was seated at a marked seat and the SDEA officer told him to move but he refused to do so. The man started to challenge the SDEO and hurled vulgarities at him.
The man is currently facing investigations for using abusive words against public servants and non-compliance with safety measures.
Penalties:
Anyone found guilty of disorderly behaviour is punishable under Section 20 of the Miscellaneous Offence (Public Order and Nuisance) Act with a fine up to $2,000, imprisonment term of up to six months, or both. Upon second or subsequent convictions, individuals are liable for a fine of up to $5,000, imprisonment up to 12 months, or both.
Anyone found guilty of using abusive words against a public servant or public service worker is punishable under Section 6(3) of the Protection from Harassment Act with a fine of up to $5,000, imprisonment term of up to 12 months, or both.
Covid-19
For non-compliance with safe management measures under the COVID-19 offenders may be jailed for up to six months, fined up to S$10,000, or both.
For not wearing a mask or not wearing a mask properly they can be charged under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020.
Penalties include a fine of up to SGD$10,000 and jailed for up to six months.
