In a tragic incident in Ratchaburi, Thailand, a drunken man fatally stabbed a stranger after the latter intruded into his rented room. The event unfolded on November 25, 2024, when police were called to the scene to investigate the death of a man identified as Noi, whose body was discovered lying face-up on a road leading to a village in the Photharam district. Authorities noted a fatal stab wound on his back.
The alleged assailant, 27-year-old Ye, was present at the scene and confessed to the crime, surrendering the knife used in the attack to the police. According to Ye, he was consuming alcohol in his room when Noi entered without permission. The victim reportedly brought methamphetamine, commonly known as Yaba, into the room and began using it in front of Ye.
Ye recounted that he became angry and demanded that Noi leave his room, which provoked a furious response from the victim. In a fit of rage, after calling two friends for support, Ye stabbed Noi in the back, shocking both the victim and his companions. Following the attack, all parties fled the scene, but Noi collapsed on the road and succumbed to his injuries.
After the incident, Ye went to the home of a community leader to report what had transpired and requested that the leader contact the police. He claimed not to have known Noi or his friends prior to the incident and stated that there had been no previous altercations between them.
Upon searching Ye’s room, police discovered an empty alcohol bottle and foil paper typically used for consuming Yaba. Ye was taken to the police station for further questioning, which is expected to occur once he has sobered up.
This incident adds to a troubling trend of violent altercations in Thailand, with another recent case involving the fatal stabbing of a motorcycle taxi rider in Nonthaburi, highlighting the ongoing issues related to substance abuse and violence in the region. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding these incidents to ensure public safety.
