A reddit post by User Maeverickmind is currently getting viral on Facebook which states on how a Eurasian woman was mistaken as a maid during PAP’s walkabout in Mounbatten.
Here was what was stated in the reddit post.
“I have two different family members residing in the Mountbatten area. First one darker, typical Eurasian. First thing she was asked when she opened the door was if she’s a citizen. She said did you ask because I’m dark skin but there’s a cross at my door? Anyway, she said yes she is born and bred, next time don’t assume with that approach. They mumbled something and scoot off. Including the MP!
My aunt lives in landed property. When she approached the gate, they asked if her employer’s at home.

It’s infuriating every time this happens. No one knocks on a Chinese household and ask if they’re Singaporean Chinese first.
I guess the approach during these walk abouts should be to just assume everyone’s a citizen until they tell you they’re not? Also maybe a more tactful way of asking what with all the tensions surrounding minorities.”
