Wild Boar Situation Update

Concerned residents have WhatsApp me videos and pictures of wild boar sightings and understandably worried about safety, especially for our children and seniors. I’m equally concerned.

Earlier today, I met with NParks officers for a latest update on measures and check on the perimeter fence:

1)NParks operations are on going and officers have been on nightly stake outs for the past 3 weeks. My thanks to the officers. We note there’s one male boar left in our area.

2) Through CCTV footages, NParks has detected that the wild boars likely entered via the perimeter gate that park users used to enter Zhenghua Nature Park. As the gate was damaged and left opened, the boars entered. We discussed on new designs for the gates while noting that any designs need to be friendly for wheelchair users. NParks will expedite the installation of the new gates. I seek residents help to ensure the gates are closed and handle with care as previous gates were damaged.

3) We have also detected feeding in our estates specifically at Blk 465 and 466 which probably attracted the boars. I urge residents to stop feeding as it can attract not just boars but pigeons too. I’ve asked agencies to step up advisories and enforcements.

4) Lastly, when encountering a boar, please stay calm and slowly walk away.

We will step up measures. Please stay safe.
