In a recent enforcement operation, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, in collaboration with the Singapore Tourism Board, apprehended eight drivers engaged in providing unauthorized point-to-point transport services. This operation specifically targeted drivers offering rides to popular tourist destinations, including the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum, as well as Gardens by the Bay.
The LTA disclosed on their official Facebook page that these drivers were not only operating without the necessary licenses but were also involved in unlicensed tourist guiding activities. As a result of the operation, the foreign-registered vehicles used by these drivers were impounded.
Risks of Illegal Services

The LTA has issued a stern warning to the public regarding the dangers associated with using illegal point-to-point services. These services lack the proper licensing and insurance, which can lead to significant risks, particularly in the event of an accident. The authority emphasized that passengers should refrain from utilizing such services to ensure their safety.
Legal Consequences for Offenders
Those found guilty of providing illegal transport services face severe penalties. Offenders may incur fines of up to S$3,000 and/or face imprisonment for a duration of six months. Additionally, there is a possibility that their vehicles could be forfeited as part of the legal repercussions.
The LTA reiterated its commitment to cracking down on illegal transport operations, stating, “LTA will continue to act against drivers who provide illegal point-to-point services using vehicles.” This ongoing effort aims to protect both passengers and the integrity of the transport system in Singapore.
Conclusion
The recent crackdown on illegal point-to-point services highlights the importance of adhering to transport regulations in Singapore. As the LTA continues its enforcement efforts, it serves as a reminder for both drivers and passengers to prioritize safety and legality in their transportation choices.
