ELDERLY AUNT USE HER AGE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUNGER RELATIVES

“AITA (Am I The As******) for telling my elderly aunt off for scolding my younger brother for being “selfish”?

This happened last weekend at a family gathering at my place. As part of the gathering, my family ordered several pieces of black pepper pork and other expensive dishes. When it came to share the box of pork, everyone willingly agreed to let my brother have the first pick since he was the youngest.

When my brother picked the seemingly biggest piece of pork off, my elderly aunt (who to be frank, I already have had enough of her by that point. She is an obnoxious woman who likes to compare and demand respect.) scolded him and told him it is “extremely rude and selfish to choose the biggest piece first”. She claimed she would “have taken the smallest piece and let the others have the bigger ones”, telling my mum that my brother is a “bad child and a bad example”.

When my brother gave the piece of pork to my aunt as a apology, I snatched back the piece of pork and told my brother to eat it. When my aunt was about to yell at me, I tore into her, saying that she is an “barbaric entitled piece of **** “ and my brother is not obliged to “give up the opportunity given to him” just because she wants the piece. I told her to “suck it up” and stop using her age to get freebies and rewards when she don’t deserve it.

My aunt in response told my nieces and nephews not to follow my and my brother’s example but after the dinner, I told my brother that he is smart for being an “opportunity grabber” and he will go places if he maintains the spirit in him.

My father has told me I shouldn’t have done that during dinner and just let my aunt have what she wants. I told him that we are living in a world where it is illogical to give up your comforts and dreams just because someone wants them. I am sick of my aunt and others using “moral lessons” as an excuse to get what they want for free for other people and snapping back when it is not convenient for them.

AITA”
