Elderly Man Scold Woman on Public Bus, Allegedly Strikes Her With Mobile Phone

The clip quickly gained traction on Instagram, attracting hundreds of thousands of views as netizens debated the behaviour displayed on the bus and the responsibility of passengers to intervene during public disputes.

The altercation reportedly began after the woman asked the man to move his belongings so that other passengers could sit.

Argument reportedly started over bus seating

According to the description accompanying the viral video, the incident took place on bus service 36B. The woman allegedly requested that the elderly passenger place his bags on the floor rather than occupying two seats.

The request appeared to anger the man, who then began shouting insults at the woman while seated across from her. In the footage, he can be heard directing several derogatory remarks toward her, including comments about her education and intelligence.

At one point during the exchange, the woman began recording the interaction with her phone. The man responded by warning her not to film him.

Moments later, he appeared to swing his own mobile phone towards her in a striking motion. One of the swings seemed to land near the woman’s lap, where her handbag was placed.

Bystander intervenes during confrontation

The tense situation drew the attention of other passengers on the bus. A male commuter who had been filming the altercation stepped in and told the elderly man to stop his actions.

The bystander could be heard repeatedly urging the man to calm down and refrain from hitting the woman. He later approached the woman to check on her wellbeing.

She responded that she was alright, though the dispute continued to attract attention from surrounding passengers.

According to the social media post, the elderly man later called the police and claimed that he had been cornered during the argument.

Other commuters reportedly restrained the man

The same post also alleged that the situation escalated further after the initial confrontation. The man reportedly attempted to grab the woman’s phone and became increasingly aggressive.

At that point, two male passengers were said to have stepped in to restrain him to prevent the situation from worsening.

A short clip at the end of the video shows raised voices among several passengers, although the exact sequence of events outside the camera’s view remains unclear.

Authorities have confirmed that the matter has been reported to the police. The Singapore Police Force stated that a police report has been lodged, though further details about any investigations or follow-up actions have not been disclosed.

The incident has since triggered discussions online about commuter etiquette, public transport behaviour, and how bystanders should respond when witnessing confrontations in crowded spaces.
