A 92-year-old mother and her 70-year-old son were both found dead on the morning of 22 October, after neighbours detected a foul smell coming from their unit.
Tampines GRC MP Desmond Choo, said that the pair were recluses who refrained from participating in activities despite being known to grassroots and community volunteers.
Choo said that volunteers had reached out to them over the last 7 years at least 5 times but with little success.
He described their deaths as “unfortunate and very sad,” and that they understand from the police that there was no foul play suspected, and they likely died from natural causes.
The grassroots team are also working with the police to locate their next of kin(s) and/or friends.
Choo added that the elderly mother was seen to be quite frail, but her son seemed healthy and they were self-sufficient and not on any support schemes.
