ELDERLY WOMAN FELL DOWN ON ESCALATOR, SCREAMS FOR HER SLIPPER

A netizen shared how an elderly woman had fallen on an escalator and still screaming for her slipper, she got hurt and refused to go to the hospital.

Here is the story

This elderly woman, I’m going to guess she was well over 80, came into the store with two much younger folks with her. They were super friendly and sweet, asked a bunch of fun questions, had never shopped there before so they were excited.

The elderly woman was, I’d say, wasn’t overweight but she wasn’t super skinny either. My point in bringing this up is simply that she was a sizeable person, and this is relevant to what happens later in this story.

They were originally looking for the elevator, which I pointed out to them, but the elderly woman preferred the escalator. They take the free info stuff they need, then go up to the escalator to get on.

The elderly woman is watching the escalator like a hawk. They pause in front of it, and the people with her are holding her arms. This is a really bad but also obvious sign that she shouldn’t be going on the escalator. In that moment a customer came up to me so I turned my attention to him.

Next thing I hear is a loud slam. I look over and the woman has fallen backward at the bottom. The escalator’s steps are trying to drag her up, and the people with her are trying to drag her off. Given her height and weight plus the escalator trying to take her with it, that’s why it was hard for them to get ahold of her.

This was before I knew about the emergency stop so I just ran over, grabbed her robe and helped pull her off the escalator.

Security had seen this on the cameras so they rushed down there before I could even call them.

The woman had hit the back of her head. She was upset that her slipper went up the escalator and she kept shouting “My slipper! My slipper! I need my slipper!” When security got there they checked her out and asked her if they could call emergency services for her. She refused the care. They should not have asked, they should have just done it. It was a policy the store had, to offer instead of do it, and I think that’s stupid.

After sitting in the lobby for a few minutes they got up to try shopping again. This woman STILL wanted to go on the escalator and they had to forcefully pull her away from it and make her get on the elevator.

I forget when but at some point during all that, one person from security had gotten her slipper for her.

I did see them on the way out and the woman seemed okay, but, I really wish she had gone to the hospital.
