In an incident that unfolded in a local supermarket, an elderly woman found herself in a distressing situation that highlighted the consequences of a seemingly innocuous encounter.
The incident took place on a seemingly ordinary afternoon at the Bukit Merah Central’s NTUC Supermarket. Seventy-year-old Mrs. Huang was going about her business when she became embroiled in an unexpected altercation.
Overheard Conversations
According to Shin Min Daily News, as Mrs. Huang perused the supermarket aisles, she couldn’t help but overhear a conversation between a mother and her daughter. The duo was discussing the affairs of others, and Mrs. Huang, disapprovingly, made eye contact with them. Under her breath, she murmured, “Always gossiping about others.”
What followed next was beyond Mrs. Huang’s anticipation. The mother and daughter, seemingly offended by her disapproving glance, confronted her. In a shocking turn of events, they grabbed a handful of her hair and forcefully pushed her to the ground.
Mrs. Huang, shocked and injured, recounted the distressing experience. She felt a sharp pain where her hair had been yanked, and the following day, the pain persisted. Additionally, the forceful grip had left visible bruises on her hands and even a swelling on her forehead.
She told SMDN that the duo tore a handful of hair from her head as well during the alleged assault, and she couldn’t shout for help at the time because she lost her voice due to having flu.
A staff member of the supermarket soon came over to pull the mother and daughter away from the elderly victim, and the police also later arrived at the scene.
She also expressed her refusal to be sent to the hospital because of the $100 transfer fee for non-emebrgency cases.
Determined not to let this incident go unnoticed, Mrs. Huang has decided to take legal action against the mother and daughter responsible for her ordeal.
