A domestic helper who had stolen her employer’s cash on multiple occasions while working here for 7 months has been sent home prematurely.
Her employer decided to outsmart her and eventually caught her red-handed by using a clever ploy by marking her cash.
The employer was also kind enough to not report the matter to the police, and let the helper off by asking her to leave Singapore and go back home.
According to the employer’s son, the helper would often short change the elderly woman when buying things and also use up the household necessities quickly on purpose just to have more chances to go for shopping trips.
This eventually caused the elderly woman to suspect that the helper was stealing from her.
How the helper got caught
The elderly woman discussed with her family members and then decided to mark 4 different bills of $10 from 1-4 and placed her bag in a specific location in the house before leaving home.
When she came home, she realised that the bag had been moved and decided to confront the helper to surrender her belongings for her to check.
She eventually found one of the marked notes on the helper and even though the helper denied stealing at first, she admitted to doing it in the end.
The helper must have thought that because of the elderly woman’s age, she would be an easy prey.
